This track is set up so that it can be leisurely walked with two nights in huts along the way. I elected to walk the approximately 30 km track in one day, starting early in the morning. Unfortunately, it was raining when I started and the weather is reflected in the first photos. The first photo looks back along Maori Beach from the tidal stream at the far end of this beach.
The next photos show the stream itself and the swingbridge across it. Once under the thick cover of trees, the rain became unnoticeable and by late morning it stopped. Shortly after my lunch, I reached the highest point on the track with sweeping views of the surroundings and which would have been an ideal lunch spot. The Rakiura Track was developed relatively recently and features many short boardwalks which detract a little from the naturalness of the area but enable one to avoid mucky passages.
